The Actor | The Musician | The Writer

Hey there, I’m Jolomi. I’m an actor, and musician who loves to write. Currently living and working in beautiful sunny Houston, Texas.

I AM JOLOMI…

Jolomi E. Amuka is an artist; his mediums are Music, Acting, and Writing.

His African origin serves a censorious purpose, an anchor for discovery. Jolomi often creates out of an afflictive need for keen awareness, but these amounts are never permissive. Play is a serious matter: during the game, different rules apply than in everyday life and even everyday sentiments undergo transubstantiation.

His works are based on inspiring situations: visions that reflect a sensation of indisputability and serene contemplation, combined with subtle details of odd or eccentric, humoristic elements; chaos waltzing eagerly with serendipity.  His search is not in entertainment, rather it is to find the solemnity, empathy, and total madness that unites and divides us all, find that point, and express back to all - as well-equipped town-criers do, what that view truly looks like.

His music and writings are on the one hand a kind of tense whip against the “THE MAN” on the other hand it baths in sentimentality and attractive lures.  Again, and again, Jolomi leaves us orphaned with a mix of conflicting feelings and thoughts. By merging several seemingly incompatible worlds into a new universe, he makes works that can be felt as self-portraits. Sometimes they seem idiosyncratic and quirky, other times they seem typical by-products of a serious African influence, sprinkled with the whims of America and his flirtation with superabundance.

Jolomi is a graduate of Principia College and The American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

In more words than one, Jolomi is what you see on the page, but not the exact words, rather the thoughts between - the gloom and gay, the pride of an African, and the open-mindedness of an explorer. His mediums provide a useful set of allegorical tools for maneuvering with a pseudo-minimalist approach to the world of music and poetics; these meticulously planned works resound and resonate with sights and sounds culled from the fantastical realm of imagination.

“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.”
